The week that was- week 8, 9

We have been working hard to get our film ready for the upcoming film festival next term and wrapping up the term.We have been working hard writing our speeches and will be practising them this week. Our speech finals are on Tuesday 19 September. We said farewell to Kōkā Anahera, and we thank her for her wonderful teaching. We got to do a proper game with ENDZONE football and boy it was challenging. Pictured below are the year 7 students at their weekly Tech session.

Celebrating Week 6

We have been having lots of fun in Room 1. In Kelly sports we have done Endzone Football, which is the American version, and boy oh boy do we have students with good arms. We have also played some dodgeball in our rainy day session, and to say Room 1 is competitive is an understatement. Congratulations to Sione, who has received the Tidy Kiwi award for going above and beyond before the morning bell even rang, he has also been awarded a certificate for his effort in the classroom. Our exploration in technology has encompassed different mediums, we have used paper and measurement to draw our designs as well as done some 3D modelling.

Celebrating Term 3 week 5

We have had a busy couple of weeks. We celebrated Cook Island language week and the students explored the culture and celebrated with a song. We have also been practising our Cybersmart skills with Mrs Grant. We’ve looked at our digital footprint, what we do online and where we go. To say the students enjoyed their MOTAT trip is an understatement, many of them commented on the tram ride and the arcade room being the highlight. There was so much to see and learn. Thank you to all the parent helpers who were able to come along. We also have Kōkā Anahera joining us on her practicum.

Staying up-to-date with our Cybersmart learning.

Smart learners are mindful that being Cybersmart is staying up-to-date with our Cybersmart learning. This week we refreshed our blog profiles.  This is an important consideration each year as our blog is helping us to create a positive digital footprint. It is also an opportunity to think about how we advertise ourselves online. As Cybersmart Learners we create and share content that our whānau would be proud of.

Once we have published out updated profiles our teacher will link these in the side bar of our blog. Please visit our blogs from the Learner Blogs widget on the left.

Last week we also tried a new Cybersmart Challenge – Kawa of Care. You can read Calla’s on her blog here?

Inside the Kawa of Care

This week Mr Jacobsen visited us to share some of his tips for creating posters.

We shared some of our key ideas for Cybersmart messages we think should be included in posters.

During the week we completed the Cybersmart Challenge: Kawa of Care to remind us of some of the important words and actions.

Here is Arezo’s copy which she has also shared on her blog with the help of Gracie and Alilia.

Our first cyber smart challenge..

The Kawa of Care is an important part of our learning!

Cybersmart Keywords

Today we revisited our Cybersmart Kawa of Care to find key words and ideas that could be used to create Cybersmart Posters.

First we explored some examples of posters and took notice of the layout, words, colours and images

We noticed:

  1. The images match the theme of the poster
  2. A few theme colours are chosen and are used repeatedly
  3. Text is easy to read
  4. Use of images and shapes to add interest.

Next we use a Google Doc with a Smart Chip to watch a video and record keywords.

It is helpful to be able to watch a preview of the video the Google Doc.

See more about our learning on our Room 1 site.
