End of Term 1

And so we wrap up a very productive term. Room 4 has been very active with their learning. We have looked at how our muscles grow, why nutrition and exercise are important and how our brain grows. With this we have also looked at the growth mindset and what resilience looks like in their ever changing environment. We’ve also looked at how ideas are communicated through reading and how we can communicate our ideas in our writing.

To complete the Food for thought programme, we shopped for healthy foods and made it for our class of 30. So we had to look at proportions and budgeting as we had to get all the ingredients for under $60.

Life education for all

We have looked at how our muscles grow, why nutrition and exercise are important and how our brain grows. With this we have also looked at the growth mindset and what resilience looks like in their ever changing environment. Harold the giraffe from Life education ban came to visit us to talk about managing our big emotions. This was a good discussion.

On the open waters

Room 4 and the year 7s in Room 1 went sailing with the New Navigators programme. They learnt about being safe on the water and how to make certain knots. Blake NZ Virtual Reality were there too, giving the students a chance to see what a marine reserve looks like underwater and the more polluted areas. The students learned about being kaitaki of the sea and what we could do to help the environmental issues we are facing. A big thank you to all the sponsors who made this programme happen.

Nutrition is key

We have had a busy fortnight, the students have been having educational sessions with the Heart foundations Food for thought programme. They looked at what our body needs for nutrition and how to read nutritional labels on products. They then used this knowledge in a “supermarket” setting choosing and comparing products.

The week that was- week 8, 9

We have been working hard to get our film ready for the upcoming film festival next term and wrapping up the term.We have been working hard writing our speeches and will be practising them this week. Our speech finals are on Tuesday 19 September. We said farewell to Kōkā Anahera, and we thank her for her wonderful teaching. We got to do a proper game with ENDZONE football and boy it was challenging. Pictured below are the year 7 students at their weekly Tech session.

Celebrating Week 6

We have been having lots of fun in Room 1. In Kelly sports we have done Endzone Football, which is the American version, and boy oh boy do we have students with good arms. We have also played some dodgeball in our rainy day session, and to say Room 1 is competitive is an understatement. Congratulations to Sione, who has received the Tidy Kiwi award for going above and beyond before the morning bell even rang, he has also been awarded a certificate for his effort in the classroom. Our exploration in technology has encompassed different mediums, we have used paper and measurement to draw our designs as well as done some 3D modelling.
